Jessica was first drawn to environmental design in 2002, while managing the contract administration of an ecologically sound office building for the Ryton Organic Gardens in the UK. 2 years later she was involved in the master plan and design of an incredible eco resort, Sandele in the Gambia, West Africa (See this article for the research that Ben subsequently conducted at Sandele). By this time she had decided to commit fully to environmentally sustainable design and undertook her second degree; an MSc in environmental architecture, run by the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. She completed the degree with distinction, partly thanks to the thesis on solar shading which comprised empirical research in both the UK and NZ.
Once in NZ, she moved from architectural design into environmental building consultancy, working closely with architect Anne Salmond. She worked on projects for charity Sustainable Wanaka for 4 years, including the internationally celebrated Eco Design Advisor project. She is also works regularly for the NZGBC.
Jessica loves materials and designs that are offer delight, health and efficiency, both in the form and in the details.
Whether you have a pretty fixed plan or just loose ideas, she can work with you to make it a reality. Whether it is Passive House, straw-bale, or passive solar, she can advise you on materials, layout and form.

After your hour’s free consultation, the design will already be on the right track. Following this she will work through the design process from concept through to building consent.
