This project was for a complete renovation (near rebuild) for an out-building in London. Planning laws allowed for renovation but not replacement of existing, and also for the retention of the 1m diameter London Plane Tree growing through the corner of the building! The client brief was for the eco studio to be as warm and natural as possible, and to maximise natural light.
Ben substantially rebuilt the building, sourcing local, natural materials. The windows were handmade (and hand-delivered!) by a German joiner and the roof windows were made on site using traditional (mortice and tenon) timber framing techniques.
The clients required a warm, handcrafted building. This was the result. The curved wall goes around the London Plane Tree.
